DBRDS was established in 2008 by Pauly De Bartolo and Ivan Rimanic. Designing together since 2003, both Pauly and Ivan are native Australians who relocated to San Diego, CA in 2005 after making a name for themselves in Sydney with a prominent Architecture and Development firm. With the formation of DBRDS, Pauly and Ivan set out to create a studio focusing on modern design philosophies shaped by their Australian upbringing and education as development-driven designers.
The studios culture is energetic and one that cultivates a desire for innovative and creative problem solving, allowing exploration of a wide range of building typologies. We promote socially impactful responses through the implementation of sustainable planning. Promoting affordable housing, natural lighting, cross-flow ventilation and contextually sensitive solutions at every opportunity strengthen the benefits to the clients we work with and the communities we work within.
A philosophy of collaboration permeates each project as we actively promote ideas from our clients and consultants, ensuring that each design embodies our core values and aspirations as a design practice.
DBRDS has been acknowledged with the following design awards:
2013 – AIA San Diego’s Balboa Park Centennial Honor Award for the ‘Gateway of Connectivity’ project
2016 – Grand Nugget Award for Multifamily Housing for the ‘Greenstone Row Homes’ project
