SOLAGE LA JOLLA

DBRDS was engaged in 2013 to study the conversion of an existing office building in the Village of La Jolla into a luxury boutique hotel. Through the project research it was established that the existing modernist structure was designed in 1965 by the prominent firm of Ladd & Kelsey Architects. At the clients request, we continued with the design concept which would have removed the Brutalist concrete sunscreens to layer the building with exterior balconies as well as new roof top bar & lounge spaces as new amenities for the hotel concept. It was deemed by the City of San Diego Historic Review staff that the architecture was an important piece of the historic fabric of San Diego and so our concept did not proceed beyond preliminary design.
