Get to know: Ivan Rimanic

Ivan Rimanic, Partner at DBRDS, brings a balance of technical precision, creative passion, and cultural curiosity to his work. He began his architectural journey at Granville TAFE, completing a Certificate IV in Residential Drafting, before earning his Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Technology, Sydney. For him, architecture was a natural progression from drafting - an evolution of his love for hand drawing with parallel rules, set squares, and fine Rotring ink pens on tracing paper.

Alongside the craft, he drew inspiration from both historic and modern icons, from Francis Greenway’s Hyde Park Barracks to Jørn Utzon’s Sydney Opera House. That curiosity naturally extends into travel, where he seeks out the intersections of old and new - from the urban diversity of U.S. cities to the unique character of places like Marfa, Texas, where agricultural past and contemporary art culture blend into a distinct style.

Outside of practice, Ivan values simple pleasures that ground and refresh him: savoring a morning espresso, hiking to let go of worries and embrace the moment, and sharing a game of Briscola with friends. Together, these threads reveal an architect whose life and work are shaped by precision, discovery, and a deep appreciation for the richness of place.
