tangents ‘25 | April

April’s spring explores the topic of renewal, regeneration, transformation. And with this energy, April’s theme is the topic of Evolution.

Stagnation kills. As architects and designers, the agility to evolve is our greatest asset. The constant movement keeps ideas and intellect revived and aware. The evolution of self makes a better designer, the evolution of an idea can be dynamic and relevant to current societal culture and needs.

This month, we visited the growth and development of Zaha Hadid’s career. We watched as her simple curiosity and exploration of Malevich’s paintings, erupted into complex design theories and implementation that at times feels as though it defies gravity. Watch Michael Wyetzner of Michielli + Wyetzner Architects walk through the history of Zaha Hadid’s evolution.

Life’s trajectory is not a straight line. Growth and self-development can impact that trajectory greatly. If you are agile enough, you will be able to move towards what calls you. A great example of this is the story of Tadao Ando’s life journey and how he landed in architecture.

Now, who is better at constant development than Bjork herself? In her music video Bachelorette, she collaborated with Michel Gondry to show the cycle of moving away from nature and instinct into logic and assimilating to urban life. This video is the final part of a trilogy worked on by Michel Gondry & Bjork, preceded by music videos for her songs ‘Human Behavior’ and “Isobel’.
