PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In 2015, DBRDS was invited by Brad Raulston, then City Manager of National City, to join a multidisciplinary team to prepare a transformative new Downtown Specific Plan aimed at revitalizing the city's urban core and attracting new investment opportunities. The resulting plan established a bold vision for a more connected, walkable, transit-oriented downtown and was ultimately recognized with the 2018 American Planning Association Comprehensive Planning Award for a Small Jurisdiction. As part of this broader planning effort, DBRDS initiated the production of this Request for Proposals (RFP) video as a marketing and economic development tool for the City.

The video was designed to showcase National City's unique assets, strategic location, development opportunities, and emerging vision for downtown, while helping potential developers and investors better understand the possibilities for partnership and growth. Combining aerial footage, urban context, and site-specific storytelling, the film curated by longtime collaborators Breadtruck Films, sought to move beyond traditional development packages by communicating the energy, character, and momentum behind National City's downtown renaissance. It became an important component of the City's efforts to attract quality development partners and bring the new Specific Plan to life.
