San Diego State University, Calexico Campus Student Housing & Amenities
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In 2024, DBRDS (DoR) and SILLMAN (AoR) won an RFP for a new student housing on the San Diego Sate University Calexico Campus. The project brings affordable and thoughtfully designed residences to campus, comprising ten 4-bedroom apartments with a total of 80 beds, plus a 2-bedroom apartment for a resident property manager. Designed to support student needs and foster community, the building includes shared amenities such as a courtyard, laundry facilities, mailroom, electrical and maintenance rooms, and dedicated community spaces.
Designed as part of the SDSU campus, the exterior facades were designed as an extension of the existing campus architecture, while the interior courtyard facades were designed as a repreive from campus life, a sense of coming home to a courtyard community.
