PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Building upon DBRDS' AIA Award-winning Reclaim Balboa vision as part of the 2013 Balboa Park Centennial Gateway competition , the studio was invited by the San Diego Flash Soccer Club to further explore the future of the historic Balboa Stadium site. The study reimagined the aging and underutilized stadium which is now part of San Diego High School, as a revitalized multi-purpose venue capable of serving professional soccer, community events, and educational programming. Designed to align with the club's ambitions of joining Major League Soccer, the concept investigated how strategic architectural interventions could transform the landmark into a modern urban stadium while preserving its rich sporting legacy and strengthening its role as a civic destination at the gateway to Balboa Park and Downtown San Diego.
